Residential Projects

Residential work ranges from the individual home purpose designed for a client to the individual home designed as part of a neighbourhood development often in multiple variations on a theme, to condominium residential apartment or town house complexes, to low income housing at the end of the spectrum. In the Caribbean this sector of development (particularly the middle and low income housing sector) is surely the one requiring active attention. All too often we hear of the urgent need to create residential accommodation for our rapidly expanding population. That the profession, the construction industry and society as a whole is not in control of the situation is evidenced by the ever increasing degradation of our residential districts and the ever-spreading squatter settlements on our hillsides.

NLBA Interisland is keen to make a significant intervention in collaboration with pro-active agencies of development. The very essence of our civilization is at stake. Shelter from the environment has been one of the primary objectives of man. When this basic need is obtained, the shaping of the built environment to his specific taste and desires then becomes the priority. Culture begins to influence.

The Vocabulary and built elements are arranged and designed to satisfy both the individual and the community. As this is a living environment, our service tends to be personal and a close relationship is vital between the client and the architect for the success of the home.

Multiple housing developments are a bit more standardized and the approach to the units are closely influenced by the lifestyle of the community for which the units are designed, yet each unit of the complex though modular in design, must be able to be customised to each individual owner's taste, needs and desires. In an effort to continue a personalized service we are able to provide an interior design service or consultancy with the developers and their clients.

Over the years the firm has worked with numerous individual clients to convert their respective dreams into reality. Single purpose-designed residences are a luxury in this day and age. Consequently, the firm has adopted a policy of accepting a design brief for single residences only on the basis of a client's shared perception of creating something special architecturally.

Multiple residential developments are now perceived as likely to be affordable to more and more people. It is the policy of the firm to approach each multi-family residential development as an opportunity to create a vibrant and harmonious neighbourhood, while our interior designers can assist individuals customize their internal domain.
