Institutional Projects

The embracing of technology is now a vital part of modern life. This does not mean however that we must of necessity forget the traditional ways we relate to one another as a people. Rather, the challenge is to harness the technology to enhance the relationships and structures that comprise our civic culture and see it expressed in our Civic Architecture.

Civic Architecture in particular takes on a major significance in maintaining our identity as a Nation and as a People. There is an urgent need for the creation of meaningful urban space and the creation of appropriate Institutions to fulfill this need. Identification of re-development projects for both the urban and the Inner Cities of Port of Spain and San Fernando as well as re-development projects in the Cities of Castries and Vieux Fort in St Lucia are prime examples of this new awareness.

In the mid 1980's NLBA Architects collaborated with the Eastern Credit Union in the creation of La Joya, a multi-function Social/Administrative Centre which we are proud to promote as a singularly apt prototypical form of Local Multi-use Civic Centre with which people can identify and feel they belong to.

NLBA Interisland Architects continues to be involved in the development of Educational and Health Care facilities in joint venture with expert consultants.
