Commercial Projects
The development of the Nations of the Caribbean, has brought with it the demand for a variety of Municipal and Corporate Office buildings. The modern office building is now an integral part of our cities. The quest now is to harness the technology available to gain the efficiency and economies required in this competitive world while at the same time expressing an architectural image that relates to our culture and traditions. The International Style has spread throughout the world and has been largely accepted as an integral part of modern day expression. There is however a new mood in the making which encourages a more regional expression. Thus the way we use glass, steel and concrete is being influenced by our culture and traditions as well as environmental and climatic needs.
Indeed our cultural expressions are beginning to show a direct influence on our music, literature, food and Festivals. As confidence builds we can expect to see more meaningful works of Architecture here in the Caribbean. Indeed, the private sector Corporations and Governments are realizing the need for appropriate Civic Architectural expression and this new movement is fast gaining popular acceptance. We are entering a New Age of Architecture which celebrates Man's enormous progress and the possibilities for further strides forward.
The Caribbean is not far removed from the vanguard of technological innovations and our office and commercial environments are a certain sign of this, with telecommunications and electronic systems and environmental controls, all featuring in the process.
NLBA Interisland Architects has fully embraced the new technologies in its own office organisation and has through research and experience been able to explore with a variety of Corporate and Government Clients the development of state of the art office environments. Good examples of this type of enterprise can be seen in the Head Office building of the Republic Bank of Trinidad and Tobago at Park Street, Port of Spain and the Head Offices of the St Lucia Air and Seaports Authority in Castries, St Lucia.
