NLBA History
Newel Lewis Broadbridge Associates Limited in association with Newel Lewis Broadbridge Associates (W.I) Ltd., NLBA International Inc. and Interisland Architects and Planners (NLBA Interisland Architects) has been providing a complete range of architectural services in Trinidad and Tobago and the Eastern Caribbean since 1946. Practicing formerly as the partnership of Mence and Moore, the two founding partners Arthur Dadley Moore and Richard Mence, came to the Caribbean and opened offices in Trinidad, Guyana, and Barbados, with Clients ranging from the business community, governments, embassies and various institutions to the private home owner.
A change of name to Newel Lewis Broadbridge Associates was implemented in 1973 reflecting the new leadership then of John Newel Lewis and Bernard Broadbridge. Claude Guillaume joined the Firm in 1969, became an Associate in 1971 and a Partner in 1973.
In December of 1981 the Practice changed from a Partnership to a Limited Liability Company . In 1988 Newel Lewis Broadbridge Associates (West Indies) Ltd. was registered in St Lucia and in 2004 NLBA International Inc. was launched.
Raul Poon Kong joined the Firm in 1984, was made an Associate in 1986 and a Director in 1988.
The Firm acknowledges its deep gratitude and appreciation of the contributions to the Practice and the Profession in Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean of the late Arthur Dadley Moore (deceased 2000), the late Bernard M. Broadbridge (deceased 1984) and the late John Newel Lewis (deceased 1991).
In 2000, two Associates were introduced to the practice in Trinidad. They are Ravi Ramkalawan, who joined the firm in 1990 and Pauline Thomas who joined in 1989.
Ronald Joab assisted in setting up the Practice in Saint Lucia in the late 1980’s and returned to the Practice in Saint Lucia in 2005 when he was re-instated as a Director of Newel Lewis Broadbridge Associates (West Indies) Ltd.
Duane Marquis joined Newel Lewis Broadbridge Associates (WI) Limited in 2003 and was made a Director in 2006.
Monica Yard who has been with the Saint Lucia Practice from inception was made an Associate in 2007.
While branch offices of the Practice were once operated in Guyana and Barbados, currently the Company services the Caribbean out of its two registered offices in Trinidad & Tobago and St Lucia. In addition, the Firm has developed network linkages with other international practices and expert consultants throughout the Caribbean and further afield in its quest to provide a first class service to its Clients.
The NLBA-Interisland enterprise has kept abreast of the state-of-the-art design, management and leadership techniques resulting in strong synergistic and computer networked systems of operation that benefit our projects, associates and especially our Clients whose interest we consider to be paramount.
The Interisland Connection
Newel Lewis Broadbridge Associates (West Indies) Limited was registered as a St Lucia based company in 1988 under the leadership of Claude Guillaume.
By 1989 a working association was established with the well known Interisland Architects and Planners headed by Neville Skeete. This combination of skills and resources has proven to be very effective and the St Lucia based practice is now exploring opportunities throughout the Eastern Caribbean. NLBA International Inc. is driving this segment forward.
Interisland Architects and Planners was founded in 1974 by Neville Skeete, His extensive experience in the UK and the Caribbean with building types varying from hospitals, schools, hotels and residential works brings to the group a wealth of knowledge and expertise.
